The Three Main Weapons of Fencing

The Three Main Weapons of Fencing

Fencing is a very ancient sport that has been handed over through the generations which is mainly a group of combat sports and demands the use of bladed weapons. Fencing is mainly defined into three kinds on the basis of weapons used for it. The fencing sport has also been featured in the Olympic Games over the years. The first kind of weapon used for fencing purpose is the Foil. This weapon is light in weight and thrusting, it mainly targets the torso are of the opponent, that also includes the shoulders as well as the back but excludes the arms. Always protect the face with a fencing mask. In this game of fencing, only by touching the opponent with the tip of the weapon helps one in gaining points.

The second kind of fencing weapon is the Sabre. This weapon is also light and meant for thrusting as well as cutting purposes. The entire body of the opponent above the waist level is targeted by this weapon excluding the hands. To score points one has to either hit the opponent with the edges of the blade or with the tip. If touches are made in sections that are not counted, the fencing is not stopped until one of the players make the correct hit. If both the players during fencing make a correct touch in the same time, the referee is the decider to give the scoring points.

The third kind of fencing weapon is the Epee. Unlike the other two mentioned above, this weapon is much heavier and is used for thrusting purposes. The target lies on the entire body, but the specific rule in this case is no hits with the sides of the blades are counted only the touches made with the tip of the weapon are valid in the game.
