Texas Tech University Cheerleaders

The Texas Tech cheerleaders consist of thirty two members. The Texas Tech University has two cheerleading squads program, one which is an all girls squad and the other co-ed. Members of the squad cheer at all football, basketball and volleyball games. They also travel to all the football bowl games post season, as well as the NCAA/NIT basketball tournaments and the Big 12 basketball games. The Texas Tech cheerleaders also represent the university at other community and inter college events. They are part of a program which believes in inspiring juniors for the spirit program and are involved in camps and clinics where they tech kids how to cheer, including the techniques for various stunts.

The Texas Tech cheerleaders are selected by the head coach, following the tryouts in the spring semester. The cheerleaders are chosen after trials based on the score sheets rated by the squad coaches and judges. The students interested in tryout for a spot in the cheering squad are encouraged to take part in the clinics organized prior to the tryouts. The students interested must have a GPA above 2.0 to be eligible for a tryout.

The current cheerleaders are associated with America’s Best, NCA, UCA and other top gyms. They are some of the best cheerleaders in the country and under the guidance of Head Cheer Coach Joshua Anderson and choreographer Kristen Carver, have won some of the most prestigious awards. Texas Tech cheerleaders are ranked in the top ten cheerleading squads of the United States. The Texas Tech cheerleaders placed third in the National Championship, 2009, which was the university’s highest placement ever in Division 1A Coed. They had also won the Innovative Choreography Award that year. The Texas Tech cheerleaders had won the All-Girl Division in 2000 and had in been placed 4th and 5th in other years.
