San Diego Chargers: One of the Most Recognizable Teams

San Diego Chargers: One of the Most Recognizable Teams: San Diego Chargers is a football team located in San Diego, California. The team is a member of the Western Division of the American Football Conference or AFC in the NFL since 1970. But before they had been a member of the AFC, the Chargers had played in the American Football League since its foundation in 1960. The team had played in Los Angeles, California during that time before they moved to San Diego in 1961. Home Fields: The San Diego Chargers had four home fields before they moved to their current home field. During the team’s foundation in 1960, the team had been in California and made the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as their home field.

When the Chargers moved to California, they used the Balboa Stadium from 1961 until 1966. The team then moved to the Sun Devil Stadium in 2003 because of the wild fires in California, called the Southern California Wildfires. After a year, the Chargers moved to the Qualcomm Stadium, which was formerly known as the San Diego Stadium in 1967 to 1980 and Jack Murphy Stadium in 1981 to 1997, and had stayed there since. Championships and Appearances: The San Diego Chargers won one league championship in the AFL in 1963.

They had also taken home one conference championship in the AFC in 1994. The Chargers had also snatched 15 division championships in the West Division. The team had won the AFL West Division in 1960, 1961, 1963, 1964 and 1965 and the AFC West Division in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1994, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. The Chargers also appeared in the playoffs 17 times. The team had 7 playoff appearances in the AFL division in 1960, 1961, 1963, 1964 and 1965 and 10 appearances in the NFL division in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1992, 1994, 1995, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Logos and Uniforms: The San Diego Chargers started out as a football team with an arc shaped lightning bolt and shield logo. Since then, the team had not changed its logo, aside from the color. The uniforms’ color, though, had changed since the team’s foundation. The Chargers had used collegiate blue as the team’s uniform color. The jersey was white with gold lightning bolts. Then, the uniform color was changed into dark blue, along with the color of the helmet, which was formerly white. They team had worn their powder blue uniforms in 2002 to 2007. And in 2009, they had worn their original uniforms in honor of the team’s 50th anniversary.
