San Antonio Spurs: Remembering the Alamo: The San Antonio Spurs is quite a popular American professional basketball team that is based in San Antonio, Texas. The team was a former ABA team before the ABA-NBA merger. The team is one of the only four teams that have stayed intact after the said merger. The Spurs had even won several NBA championships. History: The Spurs was founded in 1967 but they had joined the National Basketball Association in 1976. The original name of the team was Dallas Chaparrals when it was founded and debuted in the ABA or American Basketball Association. The team had then changed their moniker into Texas Chaparrals in 1970. The name San Antonio Spurs was given to the team in 1973 when it was still in the ABA. Three years later, the Spurs joined the NBA and had since retained their name. Achievements and Titles: The Spurs have several titles and many achievements since its foundation. The team had already won four championships in the years 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007.
The team had also won five conference titles during the 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2012 seasons. The Spurs had also taken home 19 division titles in 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. The team players of the Spurs, even the retired ones, are active in the San Antonio community. Because of this, the team’s members are able to provide great work to the San Antonio community. David Robinson and George Gervin are just some of the active members of the San Antonio community who have been former members of the Spurs.
The Twin Towers: The Spurs had increased their stats and rankings with the help of the ‘Twin Towers’, Tim Duncan and David Robinson. The two had built an amazing duo which led the team into a championship in 1999 – the first that the team had. The Big Three: The San Antonio Spurs had also created a powerful trio, which made the team almost invincible. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili had been hailed as the ‘Big Three’. Current Championship: The Spurs will be competing against the Miami Heat in the 2013 season of NBA Finals. The team had signed up Tracy McGrady to help them in the season by letting go of Stephen Jackson. The hard work of the team had paid off and they were able to enter the NBA Finals this 2013 season, which will start in June 6.
