Mark Calcavecchia – Gentleman Golfer
Mark Calcavecchia is a professional golfer from the United States of America, currently playing on the Champions Tour, or the Senior PGA Tour after a stint with the PGA Tour where he won 13 titles in all, including the Open Championship of 1989.
Mark Calcavecchia attended college at the University of Florida where he played golf under legendary coach John Darr and Buster Bishop’s Florida Gator Men’s Golf team at the NCAA Championship between 1978 and 1980.
Mark Calcavecchia was named in the first team of the All Southeastern Conference in 1979. He turned professional in 1981 and qualified to play on the PGA Tour in 1982. However, Mark Calcavecchia achieved success on the golf field in terms of titles won in the late 1980s when he won several titles including his only Major Championship.
He made it into three consecutive Ryder Cup teams for the United States in 1987, 1989 and 1991 before an 11 year wait to be named into the next Ryder Cup team in 2002. In all, Mark Calcavecchia has won 27 titles overall and that includes one title in the Champions Tour as well where he has been playing since 2010 after his retirement from the PGA Tour.
