Bob Goalby

Bob Goalby was born on the 14th day of March in the year 1929 and he is a retired professional golfer from America. He played on the PGA tour and won his lone major championship in the year 1968 in the Masters tournament.

He has won 11 other titles in his career which has spanned from 1958 to 1971. Bob Goalby will be remembered for his infamous victory in the 1968 Masters. Bob Goalby was tied in the lead against another golfing great, DeVicenzo and the game had to go to the sudden death situation. There was some glitch in the scorecard which finally put Bob Goalby ahead of his opponent by one point.

DeVicenzo did not care to look at the scorecard and signed it and at the end of the day when the scores were being tallied, the mistake was noticed, but the player had already signed and nothing could be done to revert it. Bob Goalby went on to lift the trophy but he received a lot of criticism even though he had no fault of his own but purely luck played the deciding role in this memorable game. Bob Goalby later clarified his stand on the game and went on to win other titles in his career.
