Birmingham Barons – The Small Town Big Boys

The Birmingham Barons are one of the foremost teams that are playing in the Minor League Baseball hailing from Birmingham in Alabama. The team is members of the Southern League of the Minor League and plays its home matches at the Regions Park which is located in Hoover in Alabama. The Birmingham Barons are affiliated to the Chicago White Sox of the Major League Baseball and are of the Class – A category.

One of the biggest highlights in the history of the Barons when it drew plenty of attention from the media due to the signing of basketball legend Michael Jordan who represented the team for a short period in 1994. Founded in 1885 the team has had plenty of different Major League affiliations in its history that includes teams such as the Cubs, Reds, Pirates, Athletics, Red Sox, Yankees, Tigers and finally the White Sox.

The previous names of the Birmingham Barons include the Birmingham Coal barons and the Birmingham As. In terms of League titles, the Barons are highly successful having won five titles in the League but when it comes to the Division Championship, the team has not had much success but with a new team and a new baseball stadium coming up in 2012, the fans of the team can look forward to the team giving it all to secure that elusive title.
